Interview with owner of Sensual Delights - the blog about sexy toys!
TEG: Can you tell us little bit about you? What kind of girl where you growing up?
Kay: I'm a typical tomboy at heart, always dressed in jeans and a checked shirt, I'm pretty laid back when it comes to things. Growing up I was fascinated with horse riding and was always the girl that would come home muddy and with bits of hay in her hair!
TEG: How did you become a blogger?
Kay: I was writing some descriptive product content on sex toys for a friend at the time and I thought "Why not make my own blog?" So I took the plunge one day and bought my domain and web package!
TEG: What first made you to decide to create your blog?
Kay: I loved writing about sex toys and bondage gear so much I decided to turn it into my main hobby and as it has grown I hope that my opinion has helped a few people out there make an informed decision.
TEG: How long have you been reviewing sex toys for? And how many have you reviewed?
Kay: I've been reviewing sex toys for over 2 years now and I would say that I have reviewed around 40 items with more being scheduled all the time!
TEG: Do you have a particular method of testing toys?
Kay: I like to scrutinize them as much as possible both on what they are made from and their aesthetics as well as their function. I like to have used each item around about 6 times at least before I start writing.
TEG: What's your favorite review you've written? It can be a negative or positive review, as long as you're proud of the finished article.
Kay: I would have to say that I'm proud of my review of the Lelo Sona Cruise, although I didn't like it and pretty much said so, I hope it shows people that it doesn't matter how popular and "hyped up" a toy is, it will not suit everyone and that it's okay not to like a particular toy.
TEG: What's your number one tip for any aspiring sex toy reviewer?
Kay: My number one tip would be: Don't be afraid! Your opinion is as valid as the next person's, that's what makes the community so varied. Also when contacting companies seeking products to review, don't be afraid that they'll say no. That's literally the worst that can happen in which case you move on and contact the next company.
TEG: Do you have any interesting hobbies other than sex toy reviewing?
Kay: I read . . . a lot! I also play games . . . a lot. Basically, I'm one big geek! I am hoping to get back into horse riding again soon though.
TEG: When looking for, or being asked to review products, is there anything you'd avoid, and why?
Kay: I would avoid any products where I think that the materials are not body safe or are known to be unstable. This means anything that's made from jelly, rubber, PVC, TPR is not something that I'm willing to review as there are far better materials to use.
TEG: What is the oddest sex toy you have reviewed to date?
Kay: The oddest toy I've reviewed so far was probably the Kioto's Scissor Nipple Clamp. They reminded me of some of the instruments I came across whilst in the lab at university!
TEG: What should people know about looking after sex toys?
Kay: Keeping them clean is a must. I always recommend using an antibacterial toy cleaner before and after use.
TEG: Do you remember what your first sex toy was and how old were you when you bought it? Do you remember how much it cost you?
Kay: It was a pink vibrator with diamantes around the base. I was about 25 (very late I know!) and I think it cost me around £10. And it's still available to buy now!
TEG: Finally, what was the ridiculous sex toy you've ever used?
Kay: I think it was some awful inflatable dildo with a vibrating function. It was so rubbish! It wasn't made from good materials and once inflated you couldn't feel any vibrations at all.
TEG: How many toys have you tested?
Kay: Well I'm currently testing a few at the moment for upcoming reviews so its probably around 45.
TEG: Describe the process of testing a sex toy.?
Kay: Depending on what I am testing I use it several times on my own to get a solo play perspective and then if possible I get my partner to use it on me to gain couples view on the item.
TEG: What toys are popular right now? What, in your professional opinion, is the best one out there?
Kay: Well the Sona and Sona Cruise are popular, Satisfyer have also released some new products which I am currently working my way through and of course the Doxy Number 3 is also incredibly popular. In my opinion I would say that the Doxy Number 3 is by far the best one available at the moment.
