A merkin is a pubic wig. Merkins were originally worn by prostitutes after shaving their genitalia, and are now used as decorative items, erotic devices, or in films, by both men and women. The female version is usually made of fur, beaver pelts, linen or some soft version of cloth, while the male version is usually made of loops, chains, or metal, and is much more closely related to the codpiece.

What are the Merkins?. Tell me Merkins story.

Tomas Siuipys: The ancient Egyptians popularized grooming the nether regions as a beauty standard, and since the 1960s, the global trend of bikini waxing has tilted the balance towards a clear landing strip. But in some situations, going against the grain with a downstairs toupee is what is needed. We went even further and created not only fake hair for the private area but even rhinestone decorated pubic decorations. They look so adorable, that even men cannot resist buying them as a gift for their lovers.

How did the idea for it come? How did you get into wig-making?

Tomas Siuipys: The idea itself came up as many ideas come up in the adult industry, I guess, in a bedroom.

We have been in a party business for more than 20 years, but we have never ever thought we would be selling adult products. 6 years ago we set up a manufacturing company (a small factory) for party mustaches and beards, and a few years later we have started manufacturing fake hair merkins and other pubic decorations.

What is the philosophy behind the designs? Is there a particular design of yours you’re most proud of?

Tomas Siuipys: No doubt, that rhinestone decorated crowns, and hearts are our favorite and they are the bestsellers too, also kittens and butterflies are popular too, as well as the American flag V-shape or the heart merkin. From the classic V-shape black merkin is a bestseller too. We have categorized our merkins into a few groups: Romantic (hearts, butterflies, crowns, etc.),  Funny (smiley face, kittens, stars, a Christmas tree, even a penis shape), Patriotic (flags and the LGBT flag as well.), Realistic (many colors and different shapes) and Kinky (hairy and big size merkins). There is plenty to choose from.

First, we thought that merkins will be popular only for showgirls, but after we made a focus group among 50 women from different professions we discovered that our audience is very broad. We had set up our stand at Venus adult show in Berlin and we were selling our merkins to the visitors. We sold many merkins and pubic decorations to young women, couples, showgirls, of course, kinky sex lovers and even for elderly people.

What’s the process for applying a merkin?

Tomas Siuipys: These private area decorations are made of soft, nice to touch fake fur. There are merkins that are decorated with glitter, crystals. A merkin is stuck onto the body using antiallergic medical 3M plaster. This decoration with a medical plaster can be stuck on once or twice, there are three extra plasters in the bag.
